Graduate student council of the apa
I am currently serving a two-year term as a member of the Graduate Student Council of the American Philosophical Association (from July 2021 until June 2023), where I served as the Secretary (from July 2021 – June 2022) and currently serve as the sitting Chair (from July 2022 – June 2023). I am also very happy to say that I have been re-appointed for a further two-year term, from July 2023 – June 2025, which – upon completion – will make me the first person to serve two full terms on the GSC.
This organization advocates on behalf of graduate students in philosophy to the Board of the APA, advising the Board on how to best serve and support graduate students, and undertaking our own projects to further serve these goals.
BritisH postgraduate philosophy association
From April 2019 until November 2020, I served as the President of the BPPA – the national association which represents the interests of all master’s and doctoral students in philosophy in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
As part of my role as President, I also held a seat on the Executive Committee of the British Philosophical Association as the representative for all postgraduate students, where I worked with the BPA to provide funding for postgraduate conferences and to further create an environment supportive of philosophers at all levels, especially those who have been institutionally marginalized or faced other access-related difficulties, such as suffering from mental health troubles or physical disabilities.
The Jowett Society & the ockham Society
Additionally, during my time at Oxford as a master’s student in ancient philosophy, I served as the Chair of the Jowett Society – Oxford’s forum for external professors of philosophy to present their most-recent work to the Faculty of Philosophy – from June 2018 until July 2019. As Chairman, I enacted a programme of using Jowett funding to subsidize the dinners of students who wished to join the speaker after their talks, in order to eliminate obstacles which might prevent those worried about costs from getting to know pre-eminent philosophers. sitting Secretary.
Further, from June 2018 until June 2020, I served as the Chair of the Ockham Society – the forum for postgraduate students in the Faculty of Philosophy at Oxford to present their work-in-progress in a constructive and collegial environment.
